Advocacy for people with developmental disabilities is
central to the mission of SNCARC. For more than half a century, SNCARC has steadily
advanced causes such as better education, community awareness, meaningful employment,
sports and social activities and expansion of residential options. Parents and caregivers
began this movement and expanded it to the point where a professional staff was needed
to manage all the programs. Parents and families continue to form the core of advocacy
at SNCARC and in the community.
The SNCARC Board of Directors, the Family Support Advisory Council, Our Club (a self-advocacy group)
and the Family Autism
Steering Committee consider continuing and emerging issues that require public education, work
with legislators, and provide other means of advocacy. The professional staff is available to
provide advocacy on behalf of individuals and groups who need programs and services. Check
out the links to THE ARC OF MASSACHUSETTS, AFAM (Advocates
for Autism of Massachusetts) and other ADVOCACY
organizations too.
You can also take action by writing to your legislators.
