SNCARC’s Social-Recreation programs provide opportunities for fun and learning in a variety of social settings. The SNCARC calendar is a busy one, with a variety of choices to suit many interests. Sports programs have been active and popular at SNCARC since their beginning in 1981.

  • BASKETBALL AND SOFTBALL : SNCARC sponsors both basketball and softball teams. Teams practice weekly (in season) and compete locally and in statewide tournaments, including the Special Olympics. Volunteer coaches teach skills and emphasize team play, cooperation and sportsmanship.
  • BOWLING LEAGUES : SNCARC has two bowling teams, one based in Norwood and one in Millis. Teams practice weekly and compete in tournaments statewide.
  • SNCARC CLUB: One of our most popular activities, the SNCARC Club is a weekly social gathering for adults that offers a variety of entertainment including games, crafts, music and movies on Tuesday evenings. Volunteers help by serving refreshments, assisting with crafts and participating in planning.
  • OUR CLUB : This weekly self-advocacy social club is organized by SNCARC participants, with help from club advisors. Meetings often include wide-ranging discussions of issues that are important to members, including politics, employment, health, education, family and social events. Membership in Our Club is open to anyone interested in making new friends and contributing to the group’s discussions.
  • HIP HOP CAFE : Our Club members organize and run this coffee house on a monthly basis. Hip Hop Cafe is located at First Parish Church in Westwood and is open to the community. With good food and enjoyable entertainment, Hip Hip Cafe provides an opportunity for attendees to practice social skills in a restaurant-style setting.

  • DANCES: Put on your dancing shoes! One Friday each month is dance night at SNCARC - a SNCARC tradition since 1979. Members and volunteers get together to enjoy each other’s company and to have fun on the dance floor.
  • ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES: SNCARC offers a variety of adult education classes that offer individuals the chance to pursue special interests or broaden their horizons. Classes are offered in 8-week sessions during Fall, Winter and Spring. These are the classes available (courses in the sessions may vary from year to year, so please call 781-762-4001 to check):
      • Yoga
      • Cooking
      • Computer
      • Literacy
      • Exercise
